Our community
is quite large - over 6,000 acres (twice the size of Boone); composed
of 72 miles of city streets thru 31 subdivisions. Only 25 acres
are zoned commercial - the rest of our town is all-residential and
recreation.
Temperatures
at our higher elevations rarely reach 77 degrees - 10 degrees or
more cooler than neighboring Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. Winter
brings 80"-100" of natural snowfall.
In
addition to 14 of the highest ski slopes
in eastern America, the largest snowmaking,
and greatest up hill lift capacity in
the south - Beech Mtn. Also offers ice
skating, sledding with snowmaking, ski
kindergarten, day nursery, numerous restaurants
(11), and a variety of evening entertainment
at local lounges.
In summer our
community hosts 15 festivals and events: Sunday evening concerts,
a July 4th pig roast and fireworks, street dances, a very large
crafts festival, Autumn at Oz and a Mile High Kite Festival.

The town also
operates a 43-acre park with a 3 million dollar recreation center
(which includes tennis, basketball and exercise room), softball
field, tennis courts, nature center, hiking trails, picnic shelter
and trout lake.The Beech Mtn. Club (private) maintains the 2nd highest
golf course in eastern America - with tremendous views and the south's
best golf climate, a large tennis complex (10 clay courts), a large
children's day camp, heated outdoor pool, and year round recreation
staff and programs.
Beech Mountain
is an incorporated town and offers all the normal city services
- excellent road maintenance, snow removal, garbage pickup, fire,
police, and emergency medical, water and sewer, building code, sign
ordinance, and zoning enforcement.
With 3800 vacant
residential lots, 1400 homes and 800 condominiums, our real estate
market is very active. Building lot prices begin at $35,000 and
range to $320,000 for mile high view lots. Condominiums range from
$95,000 to $275,000. Homes begin at $160,000 and range above one
million.
